I arrived in Madrid around 9am, and what do you know my room was not ready. I grabbed breakfast and a large coffee at Starbucks (I know I know), dropped my bags off at the hostel and was off walking around. By 11am I was exhausted and back chilling at the hostel.
I relaxed at the hostel the rest of the afternoon. I actually watched two movies! I had a few glasses of wine and prepared for my full day the following morning.
The next day I scheduled to take the walking tour. However only two of us showed up so it was cancelled. :( This girl Morgan (from Boston) and I decided to do the tour anyway, on our own! The guide David, was oh so sweet, and hot. He was originally from NY but has been living in Spain for the past 3 years. He agreed to take us toward the first route, as that was the direction he was walking anyway. Morgan and I saw the Royal Palace, an amazing Park, the splendid market Mercado de San Miguel, and some rich man's mansion. We grabbed cafe con leche and made our way back to the hostel for a nap. I must say the market was my favorite thing in Mardid!!
That night the hostel hosted a Flamenco dance show! About 15 of us headed to the show. Check out the entrance.
Yes it does look at bit sketch! But this is property of the hostel, supposedly, where they use to rent out bikes. Anyway we headed downstairs for the show! It was pretty cool!
All in all, Madrid is pretty, urban, compact, and busy. I will admit for some reason I didn't feel a strong pull for or toward this city. But I have heard pretty cool stories that this city has to offer.
Later that day I was off walking around again and tried to find this famous pizza place, Pizzateca. However after about 2 miles of walking and getting lost, I gave up. :( Madrid is so hard to get around, I think. Their streets are so curvy and random. I settled for this bistro but actually had a nice lunch. Bean and chorizo soup and grilled chicken and vegetables. Oh yeah, and CHEESECAKE!!

To me, Madrid seems like a place that you need to dive into, to enjoy. I did enjoy visiting, but I must say I was very excited to be heading to Barcelona! :)
