Food Critic: Pies n Thighs, Brooklyn NY

For months I've heard about this "soul food" restaurant "Pies n Thighs." I heard they had amazing fried chicken, amongst other things! And finally, this past weekend I was able to try it out! I was there for breakfast, so I went for the basic fried chicken sandwich, it just seemed right. And boy it was! The sandwich was covered in honey and hot sauce, what an interesting combination. I love both of these flavors, why haven't I thought of this combination before?

The biscuit was the perfect consistency, not too soft otherwise it would have soaked up all of the sauce and been soft and gooey. It was crisp enough to hold the structure of the sandwich. I was that girl wiping every bite in the flavor of the plate. Yes!

I cannot wait to go back and have the sandwich again, try the fried chicken and try their desserts! They had an amazing display of donuts and pies, Lord please help me. Can someone just handcuff me to the treadmill for half of the day!?

This place is a must see! Lines can be long on the weekends, obviously. So if you're able to hit it during the week you'll experience a shorter wait time.  I believe they do take out as well.

Food Critic: Magnum Ice Cream Bars

So, I've officially tried almost all the flavors of Magnum ice cream bars over the past month in Thailand. It. Is. Just. SO. Hot! :) I wanted to share my thoughts of the flavors I've tried in case you want to try one of these rich delectable treats. Man, Magnum's marketing team sure knows what they are doing in Thailand!

Magnum Classic - aka vanilla ice cream dipped in chocolate. What Magnum Bars have going for them is their vanilla ice cream and chocolate coverings are very rich. So if rich plain vanilla ice cream dipped in chocolate is your thing, this should work for you.

Magnum Almond - this is just like the above but with bits of almond in the chocolate crust. Definitely adds some depth and additional flavor. Pretty Good.

Magnum Choco Cappuccino - I must say I was the least impressed with this one. It's just like the Classic bar but with toffee chip tasting things in the chocolate crust. Not that special if you ask me.

Magnum Chocolate & Strawberry - This one was pretty special. This had the same outside chocolate coating, but inside was a sweet rich strawberry swirl vanilla ice cream. This is my second favorite thus far!!!

Now for my favorite...

Magnum Gold: Where do I start! This one flipped the script. Inside is rich caramel and vanilla swirl ice cream, dipped in their Classic chocolate covering. However, this is also dipped in a salted caramel covering, too. MAN - this does it! The ice cream is so rich, so sweet, but the addition of the salted caramel covering just takes this to another level!!!!

Ok there you have it folks - I will update the above with each additional flavor I try. Per their website it looks like I have some more ice cream eating to do!

Headed to yoga in the morning!!!!!!!!!!!!

BACON BOWLS!!!

I remember the first time I saw the bacon bowl commercial.  I was sitting on my couch and the commercial came on.  My jaw dropped and I was suddenly in a hypnotic state, feeling as if time had stopped.  I was frozen, amazed by all the options you can make with a BACON BOWL!  I had to tell my friends - fast!

Of course I didn't call and buy one.  I was for the most part shocked for a couple days that I had never seen anything like this before.  Wondering how I could get this tool in my kitchen.  Oh well it passed.... until....

My best friend bought it for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  It was a girls weekend beach trip and she surprised me with bacon bowls.  Sunday morning breakfast could not come fast enough!!!

They were relatively easy to make.  There were two contraptions in the box, like individual muffin dishes.  It takes 2 pieces of bacon to make one bacon bowl.  You take on piece and cut it in half and drape it like an X across the top, or bottom of the bowl.  You then take one full piece of bacon and wrap around the bottom to make the sides.  Bacon is pretty greasy so you just press it all together so it sticks,  and then you can either cook them in the microwave or bake them.  No time to wait - in the microwave they go!

When they come out you simply pop them off the contraption.  They may stick a little so just slowly pry them off with a spoon or fork.  Then voila!  We were scrambling eggs on the side so once they were done we filled the bacon bowls, covered them with cheese and baked them for a minute to quickly solidify this masterpiece.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh bacon.  Bacon.  Bacon.  Bacon!

I must admit - you definitely get your bacon fix with this dish.  Almost overwhelming to be honest.  I don't think I ate bacon for a couple weeks for some reason.  But they were still amazing.  You can really get creative and put anything inside a bacon bowl!  I wonder what I'll make next?!?!  :)

Food Critic aka Food Lover

This is my official first food critic post!!!!!  I highly doubt I will post any criticizing posts regarding food, however.  I love food and there's not much I've eaten that I haven't liked!  Nom Nom Nom.

I am here to praise this amazing breakfast I had recently!  I was on a beach vacation in North Myrtle Beach, SC.  One morning we wanted to find a unique breakfast spot and decided to stop at Southern Sunrise Pancake House.  It was after "normal" breakfast hours, around 10:30 or so and the parking lot was not that packed.  Whatever.  In - we - go.

The breakfast menu was expansive!!!  Three pages of breakfast choices, woah.  I decided on the eastern omelet:  bacon, cheddar cheese, peppers and onions.  My perfect choice for an omelet!

Boy was this thing DELICIOUS!  The grits were the perfect consistency of buttery-ness.  The omelet was the perfect consistency of the ingredients and cheese.  I'll just say I had a happy plate!

I just noticed that Southern Sunrise Pancake House is the #16 restaurant (out of 254) in North Myrtle Beach!  We made a great choice!  : )

Please try out this restaurant if you are in the area!
